Story
I kept calling his chair the Dr. Seuss chair, and Nicky would always giggle at it. One day we were staring at this oddly stunning contraption, searching for the ways to put the various curves and hard elements together. “Oh, that’s it,” Nicky mumbled. “Seuss City.”
“What?” I asked.
“The name of the chair. Looks like a little Seuss City.”
I rolled my eyes and knew that he was exactly right. It’s a little Seuss City. How cute is that?

Story
3 months after Sam left us, Tyler and I loaded up our dogs and drove to Chama, New Mexico for a weeklong weaving course. It was impractical and we could barely afford it, but we had learned not to wait for a tomorrow that may never come.
I spent that week in a room full of women, teachers representing every generation, each guided by the women who came before them. This began my love affair with weaving, a practice most dear to my heart. The family who started Tierra Wools raises their own Churro sheep, a breed first brought to the region by Spanish conquistadors. All of the wool on site is hand dyed, spun into yarn and used to share the art of the Rio Grande walking loom with students from all over the country.
I returned to Three Circle Shop with a limited supply of this special wool, destined to become your statement jacket. Combined with wool from Minnesota, spun by me, this jacket represents decades of lessons, family, hard work, and craftsmanship. It reminds us that we’re all connected.

Story
Back in the early winter of 2020, The entire OOO crew (Marah, me, Nicky and Katelyn) went on a trip back to Hoffart Farm & Ranch in Dallas, SD for a little R&R. One of our days there centered around a hiking excursion along the shoreline of the Missouri river, a long-time grandma of mine, and only a 25 minute drive from the farm. About a mile along our journey, we stumbled upon two large pieces of petrified wood. Nicky and I picked them up and carried them the mile back to the highway. I always knew I’d do something with this piece someday. I’ve happily carried this beauty through 4 different house moves during the past few years.

Story
I first began work on Mia this past January, which is quite often a hard, dark time for me. Something strange and beautiful came out.
Nicky made the three concrete balls, which became our circles orbiting Dad’s Moon.
The big concrete moon was poured into an old basketball to get the shape. I thought that I had filled it full. When I came back a few days later and pulled the basketball form off of the concrete, there was this crescent moon. As the concrete settled and dried, it left this moon for me. I just had to clean up the edges a little bit with a grinder, then polisher.
Thanks Dad. I love you. I miss you. I’m trying hard.

Story
I’ve always had a thing with owls. I grew up hearing an owl couple hoot through the nights at our farm. I accidentally shot one once, when I was 14. I thought it was a chicken hawk. On the farm we’re taught chicken hawks are the enemy because they hunt and kill pheasants. Turns out, what I thought was a chicken hawk was a gorgeous owl. (turns out, chicken hawks are not an enemy). I had wounded him. He limped and looked at me with massive eyes. I was devastated. I ran home to tell Dad and he immediately came with to see. He said I had to shoot it. Put it out of its misery. I started crying, but did what he asked. From then on, I only ever heard one owl hooting at night at the farm.
Fast forward 30ish years later (Feb. 5, 2022) and Dad is hit and killed by a drunk driver. Two weeks after, I was on the farm in Dallas, SD, helping my brother Ben keep the farm going despite losing its soul. I was driving a wagon of corn home along an old dirt road on a grey day, when something flew above me. It was out of nowhere. And trust me, you see things coming a mile away on the prairie. But this swooped above me out of nowhere. I pulled over right away and jumped out of the pickup and started walking back along the dirt road. I had my phone camera going (come find me and have me show you the video). A few yards down I spotted something in the ditch. A snowy white owl, shaking its head, ruffled feathers, disoriented, looking up at the sky. “Dad,” I said. I didn’t mean to say it. I’m not a woo woo kinda guy. But I had goosebumps nonetheless, and the biggest lump in my throat I’ve ever felt. The owl looked up at me, jumped over the barbed wire fence, and glanced back up at the sky. He didn’t wait long and he flew away. I went home and read that snowy owls are almost never seen that far south.
The very next day, someone sent me an old photo of dad. He was down in some parents’ basement during a house party. A twenty-year-old golden prince, doing a backflip off a bed. He’s in mid-flip and there, just behind him, is something beautiful on the wall. A portrait of a snowy white owl. You can find at least six owls in Sam The Owl.

Story
Mapleblock had been waiting a long time for us.
For close to 20 years, this old beauty served as dining room decor (think museum piece) in the second-story of a funky South Minneapolis home. The 60 – 80 years before that is lost to history. Considering the previous heavy-use markings and drastically curved/gouged top, Mapleblock was likely a full-time, butcher shop employee for multiple decades.
We were told that if we got it out of the S. Mpls home without destroying a wall or a floor, we could just have it.
Good thing one of our greatest strengths is moving heavy objects.
Consider Mapleblock a hard-working, restoration sculpture. Ready for a big ass kitchen.
Bravo to the first 100 years. Cheers to 100 more.
Specs
Re-Birth date: 4/2022

Original “Appleton Mapleblock” from Appleton, Wisconsin. Estimated at 80-100 years old.
Based on the heavy use markings, this piece was likely a full-time working block at a butcher’s shop for multiple decades.
One original surface section of the block, with the Appleton logo still visible, was removed before the initial carve-up and sanding. We then reinstalled this piece as the final stage to the restoration process.
All of the square metal plates (covering threaded rod that spans the entirety of the block) were kept exactly how we found them.
300+ plugs and multiple inlays installed on a “new” top. We decided to give it a fresh and even surface, in an effort to strive for another 100 years of service. 1″ of original top, extremely uneven and dense with wax, was removed. This exposed many cracks and voids. We used maple plugs and inlays (reclaimed maple flooring from Better Futures MN Reuse Store in S Mpls) to fully repair and seal the top for direct food contact.
The underside bread loaf belly (think upside down sourdough) was achieved with the old and brutal 1-2-3 shop carving method: 1) chainsaw 2) belt sander 3) orbital.
Pedestal leg: reclaimed steel from our very own retired drill press.
OOO Logo: upcycled bottom end of an Easton “Smoke” little league baseball bat (34in 28oz)
Base: reinforced concrete, upcycled glass, pastel red slurry, hand-sculpted curve.
36″ x 31″ blasting surface
35″ total height
Heavy duty, cast iron caster wheels, each with locking assembly.

Story
Moon Table is a love story of the reclaimed.
There’s the hard rock maple from Kevin Harings (Marah’s dad) that he and his brothers harvested, dried and processed from the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Most of it became beautiful hardwood floors throughout their homes. Kevin had been saving the last little bit in his shop for 15-20 years, for the right person. Looks like we know the rest.
Then we have more maple floorboards salvaged from the Better Futures MN Reuse Store in South Minneapolis. The beaten and battered boards from this store have made their way into most of OOO blockage. They are old, they are persistent, they always need a good trim.
And don’t dare forget the old growth birch from the deep dark depths of Lake Superior. Wood so old it’s new again.
If you look closely – with your adoring and beautiful eyes – you’ll find every phase of the moon represented. If you look any closer, your heart will be swept away, never to be felt again. The only chance you have: chop some onions and howl at the moon.

Story
The human eye is more sensitive to changes in luminance than to changes in color. The shimmering effect we perceive from different light intensities of stars in the galaxy provide the twinkling we write songs about from Earth. Light inspires our lore, but texture is where magic truly takes flight. Different textures reflect light in innumerable directions, treating our eyes to a complex dance of shapes, shifts, shimmers. A playful combination of texture and color can transport us to the cosmos; can create an explosive celestial performance in our brains. Light chasing light, zapping straight into our galactic souls. This is Laser Tag. Blue swoops and swirls pull you into a gravity, while yellow sleeves invite you to bask in the glow of sunny rays. Color dances, carrying you to the Milky Way and beyond.

Story
After the last of the full-sized, walnut butcher blocks had been dusted and oiled, I had a hefty pile of glue-up cutoffs remaining. I chose to allow the random sizes to dictate design. In all honesty, I had no clue what I had until I took one to an art pop-up, hung it up, and someone said, “cool company sign.” Other guesses have been: photo booth, plant holder, wine rack and kite for a planet with much less gravity.
These pieces were kept finish-free, partly as testing sites for raw end grain durability, and as a showcase for the natural color rainbow of black walnut.
